India’s Global Rise is Happening. So is Ours.

India’s Global Rise is Happening. So is Ours.

India is on a trajectory few nations in history have experienced. By 2047, the 100th year of its independence, it will rank among the world's largest economies and a defining force in global governance. Its influence will shape technology, trade, climate solutions, culture, and even how we think about wellbeing and society.

That future is being built in India, but it cannot be completed there.

More than 32 million people of Indian origin now live outside India. We lead global companies. We serve in legislatures. We build research labs, hospitals, startups, and cultural institutions. We are woven into the economic and civic fabric of nearly every region of the world.

Our individual achievements are extraordinary. But our collective responsibility is even greater

Diaspora influence is not simply about elevating India. It is about strengthening the communities we call home.

It took me years to understand this. For a long time, I believed my role was to be successful and represent India well. Over time I learned that real influence comes from being deeply invested in both worlds.

If we believe in India’s rise, we must also be deeply invested citizens of Seattle, London, Nairobi, Toronto, Sydney, and Singapore. We must strengthen local schools, support small businesses, serve on nonprofit boards, mentor young leaders, invest in civic trust, and uphold the values that have enabled our communities to succeed.

When Indian-Americans strengthen Silicon Valley’s innovation ecosystem, India’s technology sector benefits. When Indian-Canadians help shape stronger healthcare systems, India’s global health influence grows. The credibility of the Indian diaspora rests not on individual success alone, but on our contribution to making the societies we live in stronger.

My own life reflects this balance. I was shaped by India, but I am grounded in Seattle. Holding two worlds at once, thinking from the inside and the outside simultaneously.

This perspective does not divide identity. It expands it.

Across continents, in boardrooms and classrooms, in legislatures and laboratories, there are Indians who understand both their origins and where the world is headed. That dual perspective is a strategic asset.

Yet the diaspora remains largely dispersed and, in many cases, underconnected.

That is the opportunity the Global India Collective (GIC) exists to address.

This is not another diaspora organization or advocacy group. It’s not simply a think tank either.

GIC is designed to serve as connective tissue. It is a platform that aligns leaders across business, philanthropy, policy, culture, and technology with India’s long-term civilizational and economic trajectory.

The goal is simple: to convert diaspora influence into coordinated global action.

India’s next chapter will not be written in one place. It will be shaped across many countries, industries, and institutions by people who carry India with them while helping build the societies they live in.

The rise of India and the rise of its global community are not separate stories.

They are the same story.

And the future will be stronger when we begin acting like it.
