Priyadarshini's Story

Priyadarshini Chatterjee is a food, culture and travel writer based in Kolkata, India. Her work has appeared in several national and international publications including Conde Nast Traveller India, Whetstone Magazine, Mint Lounge, Scroll.in, The Hindu Business Line, The Lonely Planet India, and others.

Awarded the Kalpalata Fellow for Food Writings 2022, Priyadarshini spent her postgrad years in Sussex, but chose to return home and start writing, particularly on food, as her main area of exploration. She has dabbled in different genres of food writing and now works at the intersection of food, history and culture. Recently, her story “The Purple Heart of the Banana Tree” made the shortlist (Top 10) for the Conde Nast India Excellence in Food Writing Awards.

Priya believes that food is one of the most powerful tools to enable important conversations, and that respect – for cultures, communities, people, historical context and the environment – is crucial to writing about food. When she isn’t writing or researching, she is cooking up a storm in her kitchen.
