Miriam's Story

Born in the Lower East Side of New York to parents active in the avant-garde art scene, Miriam Parker grew up surrounded by artists. She became a professional dancer who toured the world, then returned to New York to open and manage some of the hottest restaurants, the kind of places where people would spend $1,000 just to get through the doors.

“It was intense and basically broke me,” she says. “I had to stop the restaurants because I just couldn’t do it anymore.” All the while, she’d been regularly practicing yoga and attending meditation retreats. In 2014, she decided to ditch that party lifestyle for good and focus on her art, yoga, and meditation.

Today, Parker is a visual and performance artist who has completed more than 30 weeks of solitary spiritual retreat. In 2019, she completed a rigorous study of the 15 foundational Buddhist courses, as offered through the Asian Classics Institute.

Parker has been teaching meditation in New York City studios, nonprofit organizations, and corporate settings for nearly 10 years. She has 200 hours of meditation teacher training through Three Jewels, and 300 hours of yoga teacher training through Jivamukti.
