Mentoring Young Innovators At Plaksha University
How many of you have a dream? I asked this question to a room full of eager minds, and to my delight, over 80 hands shot up in the air. Witnessing this surge of ambition and enthusiasm was truly inspiring as I addressed a batch of eager minds at Plaksha University, where a new era of engineering education is being crafted in Punjab.
As a Founder and Trustee deeply engaged with the university, I seized the chance to connect with these promising young minds, drawing from my own extensive and challenging entrepreneurial journey. My message? Embrace risk-taking, shatter conformity, and most importantly, pursue purpose over mere ambition. Failures are milestones on the road to success, and I encouraged these remarkable young minds to embrace them wholeheartedly.
Being the Mentor
In this mentorship role, I wished to instil confidence in their path forward. We all require guiding lights in our lives - mentors who offer wisdom, support, and a collaborative effort to set and achieve goals. The essence of a great mentor isn't bound by a formula; It's about finding someone who is a good fit with you and provides the kind of support you’re after. I also shared with them pointers on how to make sure they have the right guidance in life.
Choose the Right Guide
From parents who provide our initial guidance to teachers, friends, and colleagues who shepherd us, mentors can come in any form. Sometimes even competitors at the workplace can help us realize what is worth our commitment. When seeking a mentor, consider exploring those who might be less senior within an organization - their availability and focused guidance can be immensely beneficial.
Be Honest with Your Mentor
All good mentors teach you how to find value in the goals you choose and how you can commit yourself to them from start to finish. It is important to figure out what you want help with in order to find the right person to guide you. Additionally, a well-connected mentor can introduce you to invaluable networks.
Be True to Yourself
You cannot expect to get the right guidance unless you are true to your goals. A mentor's purpose is to enable your personal growth journey, encouraging you to learn on your own. Find that confidant who becomes a cornerstone for your mental and emotional wellbeing.
To all the young, aspiring minds out there — stay curious and keep embracing new opportunities!
