Shweta Mohapatra is based in Gurgaon in North India, where she lives with her architect husband and two children. Deeply committed to education, Shweta has made animated films for the Children’s Film Society of India and worked on Sesame Street (India). She is a published children’s book illustrator, has taught at various design schools as a visiting faculty member, and is the creative director of an ed-tech firm.
For Shweta, the kitchen is an extension of her studio practice — a space where she explores, experiments, and whips up various dishes inspired by childhood memory and travels. Finding comfort in cooking the food she grew up eating, Shweta is Inspired by her grandmother’s recipes and using seasonal, local produce. She loves trying her family and heirloom recipes, and regional Odia cuisine from her home state. Her earliest food memories are of eating dal and rice, and her favorite ingredient is egg for its versatility, nutritional content, and taste.
Through cooking, Shweta advocates eating in a sustainable manner that is both healthy, and good for the environment. She believes food should not just nourish the body, but also feed the soul. For her, leading a holistic life is all about discipline, accountability, and responsible decision-making. From dishes to artwork, Shweta documents her journey on Instagram, and she is also working towards completing her cookbook.
