Duff McDonald was born in Toronto, Canada. He spent part of his youth in Saudi Arabia. After attending university in the United States, he decided to stay put, and eventually got his American citizenship. He lives in upstate New York.
The way he tells it, he used to believe that he knew things. He spent much of his time in thrall of his intellect and lived a life of the mind. But, as is always the case, he didn’t know what he didn’t know.
As he chronicles in his latest book, TICKLED: A Commonsense Guide to the Present Moment, the quiet of quarantine blew his mind — in a good way. With nowhere to go and nothing to do, he suddenly realized that even if he, like most people, had no idea what was about to happen, he still had everything he needed, right here and right now. That led to the writing TICKLED as well as the launch of his podcast, How to Tickle Yourself.
These days, he tries to stay focused on the tickle of existence, and most of his efforts are about trying to communicate that feeling to others in the hope that they might feel it too.
