Short Bio

Silvia Perez-Protto, MD, MSc, FCCM, is an anesthesiologist and intensivist originally from Uruguay, South America. She worked as an intensivist transplant coordinator in Uruguay, conducting more than 100 organ donation interviews. She participated at the III Transplant Coordination course, sponsored by Servicio Andaluz de Salud, Junta de Andalucía in 2003. She was a scholar for the “Fundacion Carolina” at the Transplant Services Foundation, Hospital Clínic y Provincial de Barcelona in 2005.

Currently she works as an intensive care physician staff at the Surgical Intensive Care Unit. She is an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at the Cleveland Clinic Learner College of Medicine and the Medical Director of the End of Life Center-Office of Patient Experience at the Cleveland Clinic. Her work is aimed to standardize the advance care planning and end of life care at the Cleveland Clinic. The center has the specific objectives to respect patients’ preferences, to improve family experience and to foster caregiver resilience. She is also faculty at the Center for Excellence in Healthcare Communication teaching communication skills to physicians and middle care providers.
